Answer:

Building a home in Wisconsin can present some unique challenges. Unpredictable winter weather can slow down builds, though only frozen ground can truly halt a project. With adequate planning from professional Wisconsin home builders, construction usually take between 7 and 8 months.

Midwestern soil can sometimes be unstable, making certain locations unsuitable for laying a new home foundation. Land inspections will determine whether it is safe to build.

Answer:

The first step of building a home is to set a budget. Knowing what you can afford will determine many things, including when and where you will build your new house. Generally, you’ll have a separate budget for land and for construction.

Setting a budget will determine the size of your home, as prices are determined by square feet. James Craig Builder model homes range from $134 to $174 per square foot, while our custom homes can reach $210 per square foot.

For land, it’s important to know waterfront property and certain neighborhoods will be more expensive than other plots.

Answer:

2 story homes are supposed to have the same square footage on both floors. In contrast, 1.5 story homes may have 2 levels but have less square footage on the upper level. Typically, master bedrooms will be on the first floor of a 1.5 story home with additional bedrooms or dens on the second floor, though this is not always the case.

Answer:

The custom homes created by James Craig Builders are a variety of sizes. One of our custom 2 story homes is 6,500 square feet while others are between 1,700 and 2,000 square feet. Big or small, we will accommodate your ideal square footage during the design process.

Answer:

Our 2 story homes start with 2,570 square feet in a 3 bedroom, 2.5 bathroom model and reach 4,519 square feet in a 4 bedroom, 4.5 bathroom model. Having a second story allows for more square footage without taking away from your yard or lot space.

Answer:

1.5 story homes begin at 2,116 square feet and extend to 5,062 square feet. With custom additions, your home may be larger than these dimensions.

Answer:

Our smallest ranch homes have 1,708 square feet while our largest floorplan reach 3,594 square feet. Depending on the size of your lot and your design ideas, your ranch may be larger or smaller.

Answer:

A finished basement adds to the available living space in your home. Unfinished basements are ideal locations for storage, though they are often unappealing and susceptible to bug and pest infestations. A finished basement from James Craig Builders will be warm and welcoming, especially if it has one of our custom bars built-in.

Answer:

Basements and other below ground spaces are not usually included in the story count. Some exceptions are when a basement is exposed and functions as the ground floor.

Answer:

In buildings, a story is each level or floor of the building above the ground. For the United States, the naming convention starts with the first or ground floor, with each higher floor being named accordingly. If a home has 1 story, this means there is only the ground floor. A 2 story home would have the ground floor and a second floor located above, and so on. Homes with 1.5 stories are sometimes called split levels, as they consist of one floor with some rooms being elevated but not to the extent of a full floor in terms of square space.

Answer:

There are many home contractors who promise custom homes, as long as you only care about paint colors or light fixtures. We have made beautiful homes from the ground up, letting the owners have their exact dream home. Our team believes it takes more than different paint colors to make a house a home.

Answer:

James Craig Builders uses professional interior designers to make the design and building process as smooth as possible for you. While it’s true moving into a finished home will save time, you will have to settle for the features of that house. Any changes you want to make to an already finished house will take longer than designing them from the start.

By building your own home, you have total control over the final design. If you decide you want a basement bar, a spacious kitchen, or just a unique paint color, we will make it happen before you move in.

Answer:

While remodeling doesn’t usually take as long as building an entirely new home, there are many drawbacks. The changes you want may not be possible without extensive changes to the house’s support structures, limiting your designs. Further, you will have to deal with the new construction while living in the house. If you have kids or pets, having exposed electrical wires and power tools lying around can be downright dangerous.

By building new with James Craig Builders, all the custom work is done before you move in.
