Windows

Windows

If you remember nothing else about windows, remember this: vinyl windows are inferior to wood windows, no matter who makes them and how they’re made. The reality is that attractive looking vinyl windows can cut tens of thousands of dollars off a home’s price, which builders can then put into other cosmetic upgrades.

The next time you’re in a home with vinyl windows, find a double-wide window and push – it’s guaranteed to flex a noticeable amount.  Now imagine what happens to an oversized great room window in a strong storm!  Then, put your hands over the space where two double-hung windows meet to check if there’s a draft coming in.

Vinyl windows…do not:

  • Have the same quality of weather stripping
  • Insulate as well as a wood window
  • Have the ability to be painted or stained
  • Stand up as well because they’re not as strong as a wood window
  • Resist discoloring over time.
